Google isn't the only one reading your website anymore
People are not just typing into a search bar and scrolling ten blue links anymore. More and more, they ask an AI assistant a question, "who is a good plumber near me," "how much should a small business website cost," and get a straight answer back. No links to click. No page to load. Just an answer, with a name attached.
If your website was not built with that in mind, you are not losing rankings. You are not in the running.
AI search does not work like Google search
Google's AI Overviews, ChatGPT, and Perplexity do not work the way search worked for the last twenty years. They do not hand someone a list of ten sites and let them choose. They read the sites themselves, decide what is trustworthy, and hand the person one answer.
If your site does not give a clear signal about who you are, what you charge, and what you actually do, it does not get picked. It gets skipped.
| A person scrolling | An AI assistant | |
|---|---|---|
| How they read the page | Skims photos, headlines, and a phone number | Parses the text and the code for facts it can state |
| What convinces them | A site that looks professional | A site that says the same who, what, and where everywhere |
| What loses them | A slow or ugly page | Vague marketing language and missing structured data |
| The result | They call, or they bounce | You get named, or a national brand does |
Most local business websites are not built for this
Most contractor and small-business sites were built years ago, or built by whoever was cheapest, and they read like a brochure: nice photos, some marketing language, a phone number. That is fine for a person scrolling. It is close to invisible to a machine trying to decide in half a second whether you are a real, trustworthy business worth recommending.
What we already do about it
We did not wait for "AI search" to become a buzzword before building for it. Every site we build now is structured the way these systems read a page: direct answers to the exact questions customers ask, pricing stated plainly instead of buried, and the underlying groundwork that both Google and AI assistants use to decide who is legitimate. It is not a separate product. It is part of how a site gets built correctly in 2026.
You do not need to know what any of this is called. What matters on your end is simple: when someone asks an assistant a question your business could answer, you want to be the one it points to.
Not sure your site is ready for this?
We will look at your current site and tell you plainly where it stands. If it is already solid, that is one less thing to worry about. If it is not, that is the kind of gap we close as part of every build.
