Our Google results were not an accident: here is the work behind them

Dan• October 23, 2026• 5 min read

On October 23, 2026, I searched "website design in sun city" from Menifee. Google showed three things worth looking at: an AI Overview that named Sun City Marketing, a local map pack with our listing first, and our website above the map.

I want to be clear about one thing before the screenshots. None of this was an accident. It is the result of work we did on our own site, week after week, using the same methods we build into client websites. Below is what Google showed, and then the work behind it.

One search, one place, one day. These screenshots show what Google displayed for one search, from one location, on one date. Google decides what it shows, and it changes. We do not promise rankings to anyone. This post is a record of what happened, not a guarantee.

What did Google show for website design in sun city?

First, the AI Overview. Google's AI summary described Sun City Marketing as a business that builds custom HTML websites and local SEO packages for small businesses and contractors in the Sun City and Menifee area.

Second, the local map pack. Sun City Marketing appeared first in the three-business list under the map, with a customer review showing.

Third, the regular search result. Our website appeared as an organic result above the Businesses map.

How do you improve local SEO ranking?

With specific work, done on purpose and in order. None of it is a trick, and most of it is plain and repeatable. Here is what we did on our own website.

We built it in custom HTML. Our site has no plug-ins and no page builder. It loads fast and holds up over time. That is the same build we sell, and we run it on ourselves first.

We put Local SEO schema on every page. Schema is structured data that tells Google who we are, what we do, and where we work, in a format a machine can read. For the full explanation, read what is local SEO schema.

We gave Menifee its own page. We rebuilt a dedicated Menifee page with a local photo, a local introduction, and headings written from the terms people type into Google. The older Menifee addresses now point to that one page, so the signals are not split across several thin ones.

We wrote headings from real searches, not clever phrases. The H2s on our core pages come from search data: Google Autocomplete suggestions and the People Also Ask questions we pulled for each topic. A headline nobody types into Google ranks for nothing.

We built one page for each market. Our city pages come from a single template, so every page carries the same structure, the same schema, and the same fast build, with copy specific to the city.

We linked the site together on purpose. Our footer, our core pages and our blog posts link to the pages that matter, using plain descriptive text. That tells Google which page is the real answer for each topic.

We submitted the sitemap and checked indexing. After each change we confirmed in Google Search Console that the pages were indexed, and we checked that every live page carries an explicit "index, follow" instruction. A page can load without errors and still be invisible to Google, so we check the instruction itself.

We kept publishing. The blog gets new posts on a steady schedule, and each one answers a question buyers really ask.

We kept our wording consistent. On October 22 we aligned how the site describes itself across the footer, the home page description, our summary file for AI tools, and the blog. One sentence, in every place Google reads.

We did the work for real clients. The map pack shows a customer's own words about hosting and taking over their website. That review exists because we did the job.

How do you get into the AI Overview?

We can't tell you, and nobody honestly can. Google does not publish how it chooses what an AI Overview says, and a result changes with location, device and time. We never promise placement in an AI Overview and we do not give a timeline.

What we can say is what we did, in what order, and what Google showed afterward. That is the reason for writing it down with a date. If your own site is missing the schema, the local page, the headings, or the indexing check, that is where to start. If you would rather have it done for you, that is what we build.

How do I make my business rank on Google?

Start with a fast website, Local SEO schema, a page for each place you serve, and headings that match what buyers type into Google. Then confirm Google has indexed every page. None of this guarantees a position, and it works best when you keep adding to it.

Does schema markup help SEO?

Schema makes your business facts easier for Google to read, and Google decides what to show. It is one piece of the work, not a ranking switch. We never promise a result from schema alone.

How do I get into the AI Overview?

Google decides, and it does not publish its method. What you can control is a clear, consistent website with accurate schema and real content about your services and the places you work.
