How much should a small business pay for a website?
Most contractors overpay for a website that still does not load fast, does not show up in local search, and does not capture a single lead. The price on the quote is rarely the problem. The problem is that nobody explains what the price covers, so two quotes for the same six pages can differ by thousands of dollars and look equally reasonable.
This article gives you the numbers we charge at Sun City Marketing, the line items every quote should break out, and a short list of questions that tell you whether a price is fair.
How much should a small business pay for a website?
The honest answer depends on what is being built and who looks after it afterward. A single landing page, a six-page business site, and a site with a logo and a custom header and footer are three different jobs, and they carry three different prices.
Here is what Sun City Marketing charges today. Every figure is on the pricing page, and nothing below changes after you say yes.
| Option | Build price | Set Up Fee | Total, due once you approve the demo |
|---|---|---|---|
| Landing Page (one page) | $289 | $75 | $364 |
| Gold Standard (6 pages and county SEO) | $639 | $150 | $789 |
| Platinum Standard (6 pages, vector logo, custom header and footer) | $839 | $150 | $989 |
The Set Up Fee covers the setup work behind every build: domain research, registration help, DNS, staging, sitemaps, indexing, and the schema and llms.txt files. The build is paid in one payment, and only after you have seen the staging demo and approved it.
Is $1,500 a good price for a website?
It can be. It can also be far too much for what you get. The figure alone tells you nothing, so check what sits inside it.
- Pages. How many are included, and what does each extra page cost? Ours is $105 per page beyond the six.
- Hosting. Is it included, for how long, and what does it cost afterward? Our builds include 90 days of hosting, then the Hosting Care Plan runs $110 every 90 days.
- The domain. Whose name is it registered in? It should be yours. A domain runs roughly $14 to $20 a year, and it is always separate from hosting.
- Edits. What happens when you need a phone number changed? Small edits are covered under our Care Plan, and a larger one is $30.
- Speed and structure. Does the site clear 90 on Google PageSpeed on mobile, and does it carry Local SEO Schema Markup? Ask for the report, not the promise.
- Ownership. If you leave, do you get the finished files? You should.

If a $1,500 quote answers all six of those clearly, it may be fair. If it answers two, you are paying for a brochure.

We stage a working demo in staging within 3 business days. You review it, and you pay only if you approve it.
View the pricingWhat is a reasonable budget for a small business website?
Think of the budget as four lines instead of one. Most quotes hide at least two of them.
| Line | What it is | How often you pay |
|---|---|---|
| The build | The pages, the design, and the code | Once you approve the demo |
| Set up | Domain research, DNS, staging, sitemaps, indexing, schema | Added to the build total |
| Hosting | The server that makes the site load | $110 every 90 days after the first 90 days |
| The domain | Your business address on the web | Roughly $14 to $20 a year, paid by you |
For a contractor, a Gold Standard build at $789 followed by $110 every 90 days is a complete, working budget with every line named. That works out to about $36.66 a month for hosting, contact-form lead management, remote tech support, and the edits the plan covers. If you would rather host it yourself, we hand over the finished file set at day 90 and you take it anywhere.

Is it worth making a website for a small business?
For a service business, yes, with one condition: the site has to be findable and it has to capture the call. A site that nobody can find, or that loads slowly enough to lose the visitor, is a cost with no return.
That is why our builds ship with custom HTML, a tested contact form, and Local SEO Schema Markup, and why we send Google Search Console screenshots at 30, 60, and 90 days showing indexing, impressions, and clicks. We do not promise rankings, traffic, or leads. We show you what Google is doing with the site, and you judge the return from there.
Frequently asked questions
Is $1,500 a good price for a website?
It depends on what it includes. Compare pages, hosting, who owns the domain, how edits are handled, mobile speed, and whether you receive the finished files. A price is fair when every one of those is named in writing.
How much does a small business website cost at Sun City Marketing?
A Landing Page is $364 in total, Gold Standard is $789, and Platinum Standard is $989. Each total is the build price plus the Set Up Fee, due once you approve the staging demo. The pricing page lists every line.
What does hosting cost after the first 90 days?
The Hosting Care Plan is $110 every 90 days, or about $36.66 a month. It covers hosting, contact-form lead management, remote tech support, website management, and easy edits. The domain renewal is separate and stays your responsibility.
Can I take my website and host it somewhere else?
Yes. At day 90 you can continue on the Care Plan or take the finished file set and host it anywhere. Self-hosting means the website management, the citation work, and the included edits are no longer part of what you receive.
How much does an extra page cost?
Any page beyond the six is $105. A page edit that goes beyond what the Care Plan covers is $30.
